The northern most region of the country is known for its beautiful handicrafts. Kashmir Walnut Wood Carving features some intricate carving on objects such as tables, jewellery boxes, trays etc. Khatamband is an art of making ceiling by putting together small pieces of walnut or deodar wood in geometrical patterns. Kashmir Sozani Craft is a skilful traditional embroidery. Kashmir Papier Mache are beautiful artifacts made of paper pulp and are richly decorated. Kashmiri Hand Knotted Carpets are known for their rich designs and perfection of technique. Kashmir Pashmina are the finest woollen shawls that are much sought after the world over. Kani Shawls are handwoven shawls and it is one of the oldest handicrafts of Kahsmir. The region is also known for the aromatic Kashmir Saffron which is a costly product that rejuvenates health and is used in cosmetics and for medicinal purposes. Basmati rice grown in the region is considered one of the best.
