The Trumy diaphragm couplings are high-performance couplings for rotating machines. They absorb the shaft misalignments by deformation of the flexible metallic diaphragms with specific profile, while transmitting the torque. The coupling has advantage of high strength, light weight, big power density, exceptional misalignments accommodating capacity and small additional force on equipment.  It has found a wide range of applications to pumps, fans and compressors driven by gas turbines, steam turbines and electric motors. Especially for high-speed/high-power turbine compressor sets.
The flexible elements, diaphragms made of high-strength stainless steel, bring to the coupling high strength, light weight and inherent anticorrosion capability. Thinnest and curve profile diaphragms absorb shaft misalignments by elastic deformation, while transmitting torque.

Unique Double Diaphragm Couplings use highly flexible Diaphragms. These consist of Rubber reinforced with Nylon Chords. Further at inner and outer bolting PCD Steel ring reinforcements are used. Torque ratings are determined after extensive tests and have large service factor against rupture. Rupture torque is typically 6 to 10 times rated torque. At nominal torque torsional angle is large – typically 10 to 15 degrees. Torsional Stiffness is low. This results in low critical speeds , usually below operating speed. Further torsional stiffness varies with load. At lower loads stiffness is lower. The Feature allows operation at wide range of speeds. Favourable damping characteristics ensure vibration amplitude are limited at resonance.
Design Series – Series 1000 , Series 1100 are for Direct Flywheel mounting. Series 1750 are for shaft to shaft connection. Series IP are suitable for diesel drives in association with cardan shaft – highly popular for Diesel driven vertical Turbine Fire Pumps.
Selection First selection is based on nominal torque , Max bore , Max speed , end fitment.
Next for Diesel / Compressor drives in particular – TV analysis is performed to check that vibratory torques are within acceptable limits in operating speed range. If necessary several sizes are tested – to obtain best match
Unique” would be glad to perform TV analysis on request. For this normally we would require Mass elastic data , Torque – Crank angle data ( for compressors)

Customized Disc Couplings available on request in various series Metaflex Flexible Laminated Disc (Diaphragm/Membrane) Couplings are latest generation Couplings. Disc Packs of Series 80 range are unitized and are specially shaped to give flexibility & pure tensile loads for transmission of torque.
The Unitised design of disc packs permits easy assembly/disassembly without having to deal with large number of separate discs and washers.

Metaflex Floating Shafts are ideally suitable for connecting machines relatively far apart . Typical uses are Paper Machinery Drive , Vertical Pump Drive, etc.

Disc couplings will in most cases have two flexible elements and a spacer. As all parts are positively connected, this disc coupling ensures good inherent balancing properties and is hence often used at motor speeds without additional balancing. 
The Escodisc DMUCC series has a close coupled design with a split spacer. It’s high torque, bore and it’s misalignment capacity makes it an ideal maintenance-free alternative for close coupled gear and elastic type couplings and can be modified in such a way that replacement of gear and elastic couplings is possible without modifications to an existing installation. Its split spacer design allows a disconnection of two machines and replacement of the disc pack without any axial displacement of the connected machines. The Escodisc DMUCC series is the ideal solution for applications up to 29,600 Nm (and larger upon request) with its high degree of natural inherent balance up to size 85.

The ESCO Composite is a state-of-the-art disc-type flexible coupling designed for infinite life and built out of advanced composite material that confer unparalleled light weight, high strength, corrosion and ultra-violet resistance to the coupling.
The ESCO Composite coupling has been designed with the customer’s interest in mind and it provides significant benefits over alternative transmission solutions.
The disc type flexible elements are made from a combination of stainless-steel bushings, advanced composite disc links and a urethane encapsulation to provide a unitized assembly with a theoretical infinite fatigue life. The flexible elements are rated for 1 Degree misalignment and carry a 4 times peak overload rating when applied at 2.0 service factor.
The hubs and hardware are made from stainless steel for added corrosion protection in aggressive environments. The combination of high peak overload capacity and high strength composites makes this product a heavy – weight title contender despite its light weight. The floating spacer shafts are made from Graphite and /or E-glass fibres embedded in an epoxy matrix. The epoxy resin is filled with a UV protective additive and cured at high temperature. This system provides corrosion resistance that exceeds stainless steel. There are five sizes of flexible elements that range from 75K W to 675 KW to serve most electric motor driven applications. These flexible elements are combined with matching hubs, hardware kits and floating spacer shafts to provide the most economical selection for given application.
